Traps and Lures

Several companies now sell stink bug traps and lures, and the technology and trapping effectiveness will likely continue to evolve. Below are selected traps that were used in Sacramento in 2014.

Two lures must be used in BMSB traps: One containing methyl decatrienoate (MDT) and the other containing sex pheromone. Both have a dose-response, so the greater the rate, the greater the attractiveness and potential catch. A kill (insecticide) strip is recommended to assure that trapped BMSB do not exit the hole.
