Oishii Berries on the Move

Had a colleague forward me the video below of Oishii Berry, the upstart indoor strawberry growing operation out East selling strawberries for up to $50 a basket (that's right, a basket, with six fruit in each one). These high prices are really grabbing my attention, since to bring even a little bit of that price action to our region would make us all rich.

Just a comment; Mr. Koga makes the statement that their berries, the variety 'Omakase' out of Japan, with a Brix level running between 10 to 15 is significantly higher than the conventional berry which "is from 4 to 7, and if you are really lucky 9".   This is simply not true; I have sampled thousands of berries over the years, and our Brix run consistently between 8 and 12, and while there can be some variation due to ripeness and what part of the fruit has been sampled, the range stays the same between that 8 and 12.

I think there is just a little bit of marketing going on here.
